Unwinding from two days and one night of celebration off their first BET Awards win, Day26 sat down to beast at Roscoe’s in Los Angeles. Understandably tired but still as ridiculous as ever, we got them to spit about fans, girls, and why they feel the need to go hard instead of going home.
They’re determined to acquire throwns, ready to prove the world wrong about boy bands, about Diddy, about reality show birthed musicians. Win or lose, they’re not done. They’ve just started.
Honey: How do you treat your girls?
Willie: We love our women. All of them.
Q: Just respect, treat her like your mother with respect, with the upmost respect. One day you’re going to have a kid and she’s going to cook a good meal and you need to treat her with respect.
Mike: Can she cook a good meal? Oh lord.
How do you treat your girls?
Mike: Just slap them around. [Laughs]
Alright, well…
Mike: Nah I don’t do that.
Robert: I just give my girl the black card and be like, ‘Go.’
You think that that’s all she needs though?
Robert: Yeah that’s all she needs, she’ll come back saying, ‘Thank you, baby,’ and I’m like, ‘Thank you!’
Willie: For me, it’s different. Recently someone said that I was disrespecting my wife. My wife and I understand each other, we know when we’re joking and when we’re not, which is why she’s my wife. A lot of people who follow us [on Twitter], know who we are and understand us, also understand how we interact. But most of those who commented do not understand. That’s how we roll ,that’s how we play. If you’d watch our youtube videos, you’d see that that’s how we do it; you’d see the love. I’ve been with her for eight years. We understand each other, but they don’t. We talk in code. The media takes it and says this and that when that’s not even the case. That’s why I’m with her and not with ya’ll.
What are the factors that differentiate between a jump-off and a girlfriend?
Robert: From the conversation, if there is any conversation.
Willie: She might be wife material… for somebody else, but maybe not for the next dude.
You let her know that?
Willie: When it’s a booty call, I think you both know.
Sometimes we even feel violated, we’re like, ‘Can we go on a date first? Can we wait for this?’
I let them know right away though, I don’t deal with that, I’m married.
After the show, when we’re on stage interacting and pointing at them, they let us know, ‘You getting’ some tonight, trust that. ‘
What turns you guys out?
Q: I like a girl with piercings. She’s also got to have swagger.
Robert: I like a girl that’s exotic and dark but not in the public eye. She may not look like your typical girl; you know there’s not another girl like her.
Mike: I want a lady in the streets and a freak in the sheets.
Willie: Ah man, I don’t want to go too far. I mean, we’re all freaks. A freak in the bed, but just classy in public access, cause once the lights go out and the door is closed… For Robert, she got to be hood with bullet wounds. [Laughs].
Robert: You know what, I like that. [Laughs].
What is the sexiest part on a woman?
Robert: I’m a lip and breast man.
Mike: Thighs, ass. All bottom.
Q: I like a pretty face and good conversation. Her swagger turns me on. If you got personality and swagger then you’re good.
What’s the favorite part of yourself?
Willie: Shlong. The most important part of me is the part I don’t let them see
Q: My lips
What’s the creepiest thing a fan has ever done?
Robert: Recently, the night of the BET awards. Boy, it was something. There was a fan that loved Day 26. We were trying to get in the van. I was the last one to get in. This fan runs up to me and says, ‘Oh my God, Robert! Give me a hug! Give me a hug!’ My security guard said, ‘Get in the van. This is getting out of control.’ She was screaming, ‘What? I’ve been there since the beginning,’ as if she knew me. She was really getting out of control, like, “I’m gonna have your name, I’m gonna have your name.” My security pushed me into the van, which made her real mad. Our security actually had to fight her off and has a scar from it. As we were driving off, she hit the window so hard, her arm went through it. It was the craziest thing that happened. Next time I’m going to listen
Mike: Girl had my name tattooed across her chest.
Willie: We went to talk at a high school campus about violence and gang fights and coincidentally a fight broke out. As we were leaving, we heard people say run. When someone says run, I don’t think about it too much, so I ran. But what we didn’t realize is that the exit was to the right. We ran to the left. As we get to the middle of the hallway the bell rung and all the kids began to chase us. Keep in mind, in high school, girls love you but the little boys are trying to hate on you. Girls are rubbing on you and trying to touch your clothes. Dudes are throwing books. [Laughs]
Robert: We love our fans. We try to hug, touch and connect with as many of our fans, without things getting too out of control.
Q: We love it though, keep acting crazy. The thing that I appreciate about our fans the most is that they come out and love us. It’s the others that come out in numbers. The biggest burden is still proving ourselves.
Why do you feel as if you have to prove yourself?
Brian: We got to go harder. I’m working like I have to prove myself. Maybe that’s the way I need to think, to survive and keep going. Not let anything get to my head, cause once you get to the point of not getting better or doing more, than there's no point in doing it.
